Why does it become the responsibility of eight boys to maintain silence in order to keep one man from the consequences he rightful earned and deserves. The former defensive coach, hailed for his help in solidifying Penn State’s football success for decades, has been charged with 40 criminal counts of molestation including involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, corruption of minors, endangering the welfare of a child, indecent assault, and unlawful contact with a minor. Jerry Sandusky was arrested and released on $100,000 bail on Saturday. The allegations against Sandusky paint a horrifying picture of a sexual predator who went above and beyond a simple abuse of power to prey on young boys. Claims against Sandusky range from sexual touching to oral and anal sex. It is believed a majority of the victims were in their early teens when the abuse occurred, however, there is evidence even younger children may have been involved.

These allegations are disgusting and the reactions from Penn State are embarrassing. Here is a man who has committed horrible and inexcusable acts of sexual abuse towards minors time and time again. Consistent eye witness reports have been recorded to people of authority from early 2000 and only now has the state taken action. What does this say about the priorities of our country and the boundaries we set for our supposed leaders. Instead of filing action against one of their own, Penn State is worried about the blemish that will be left on the university. In my eyes, Penn State and Sandusky should be doing a lot more to repair the damage that has been done.
